Add Dropbox As A Place In Office

Hello, I'd like to add Dropbox as a place in Office 365 for Mac. I've found these instructions for windows but the corresponding options don't show up in the Mac version and, unfortunately, I haven't been able to track down any instructions for Mac. The Dropbox add-in for Microsoft Outlook replaces cumbersome email attachments with a simple shared link. Share any file, big or small: No need to fill up inboxes. Just attach a Dropbox link instead. Take your files anywhere: Save attachments to Dropbox and access them from any device. Keep everyone in sync: Attach a Dropbox link and they’ll. MS Office Online that has web backed variants of Word, Excel and PowerPoint already have a backing from Dropbox as their storage location. You have to open Office Online and in the lower right of the window you will see an option of Add a Place from which you have to select Dropbox. Till the time when desktop variant of MS Office 2016 gets.

When you launch PowerPoint Online, it opensPresentation Gallery that provides youwith a list of recently opened PowerPoint documents, and Themes and Templates to start a new presentation. You can also click theOpen from OneDrive option, highlighted in green within Figure 1 tonavigate your OneDrive folders so as to locate a PowerPoint file to openwithin PowerPoint Online. Other than OneDrive, PowerPoint Online also supports Dropbox as a cloud alternative.

Everything Looks Different?

Unlike desktop applications, both OneDriveand PowerPoint Online are constantly evolving much faster. That may explain why screenshots on this page sport an interface different from what you see when you log in.

In this tutorial, we will explore adding Dropbox to PowerPoint Online's Place locations:

  1. Open the Presentation Gallery and click the Add a place option, highlighted in bluewithin Figure 1.

  2. Figure 1: Add a place option within Presentation Gallery
  3. This brings up the option to add more places, by clicking checkboxes, as shown in Figure 2. Notice theDropbox checkbox (highlighted in blue within Figure 2).

While scrolling through Twitter, I saw a tweet about how to add Dropbox to your list of ‘save-to’ places when using Microsoft Office 2013. I do use Dropbox some. I set up an account before SkyDrive/OneDrive and it’s been pretty useful.

Sometimes it’s helpful to learn visually, so I made a short video on how to do this. First, a couple of things to prepare your computer:

Dropbox
  1. Make sure you have Dropbox installed on your computer (and each identity on your computer).
  2. You’ll need to be signed into a Microsoft Account from within any Office application (I’m using Word in the video).

Here’s the path for the tiny Dropbox download. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46565/dropbox_service_add.bat You may get a warning that the file could be harmful, just click to bypass this.

Then you’ll need to get your Dropbox url to paste within the dialog box – for example, mine is C:UsersLynnDropbox. I show you how to find this in the video.

After this is completed, you should be able to go back to your document and click on the “Add a Place” and see that Dropbox is now one of your choices. When I recorded the video, evidently Dropbox was having server issues and it did not save this particular document. I’m not sure how well the service is working since I usually save my documents to either OneDrive for Business or OneDrive.
