Dec 15, 2016 ArcGIS 10.5 is available to customers current on maintenance. The ArcGIS 10.5 setup package is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of the same ArcGIS product. At ArcGIS 10.5, feature classes you create in a geodatabase in SQL Server that use Geometry or Geography storage will store attributes such as pointIDs, multipatches, and parametric entities (true curves) directly in the business table. Prior to ArcGIS 10.5, this information was stored in a side table that joined with the business table. ArcGIS Portal Directory—The ArcGIS Portal Directory is an interactive view of the ArcGIS REST API's resources for working with the portal. For example, some administrative tasks such as unregistering the Web Adaptor, updating the location of the portal's content directory, and setting the identity store are all available in the ArcGIS Portal. Esri® announces the ArcGIS 10.5.1 (Desktop, Engine, Server) SQL Server Permissions Patch. This patch addresses permissions and other issues that may occur when connecting to SQL Server geodatabases. It deals specifically with the issue listed below under Issues Addressed with this patch.

  • BUG-000107499 - Spatial indexes are deleted in ArcMap while executing the Append tool as a sysadmin.
  • BUG-000107267 - Permissions granted at the schema level are not honored when permissions are cached during connection to SQL Server.
  • BUG-000106595 - ArcGIS Pro 2.0 and 10.5.1 Desktop require explicit object level select privileges for users to view SQL Server geodatabase data in the Catalog tree.

  • BUG-000104225 - The session-based log file causes the reconciliation to hang with one particular SQL Server geodatabase.

Install and set up

  1. Go to My Esri and log in to download ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap).
    Note:

    Your account must have permission to download software from the downloads area within My Esri.

  2. Review the system requirements before you initiate the installation program.
  3. Start the installation program; it will step you through the process. Refer to the Installation Guide for complete details.
    Note:

    The installation program is designed to detect and upgrade existing installations; you do not need to explicitly uninstall versions 10.1 or later.

  4. Once installation completes, you need to authorize the software. The ArcGIS Administration Wizard helps you do this.
    License:

    If you're upgrading a single use instance of ArcGIS Desktop, your existing software authorization number is still valid and will work with ArcGIS 10.5 or 10.5.1.

    If you run a concurrent use instance of ArcGIS Desktop, the license server you connect to for authorization must be running ArcGIS License Manager 10.5.1.
