Hey all, I have a client running Windows 10 Pro and about a month ago, she started to experience a weird problem, the top off the program, like the title bar and menu bar would disappear, but its more that just that, you can see the desktop behind the missing part. Jan 14, 2021 First, properly open Microsoft Word in Windows 8 or 10. Generally, when you open Microsoft Word, the menu bar will automatically appear at the top. However, if the menu bar doesn't appear you can fix it by clicking the ribbon icon next to the exit button. To redisplay, select ' Show tab ribbon ' so that the missing menu bar will appear again. From your description, you are using a version of Word that has a menu and toolbars. If only toolbars are missing, but you still have the menu bar (the one that says File Edit View, etc.), then right-click on that and choose Standard and Formatting from the list of toolbars. These are the two that are displayed by default. With MathType open, expand the Help menu (by clicking it), and select About MathType. Note the version number. Dismiss the About MathType dialog by clicking anywhere inside it. Now in Word, if your version of Word has a File tab at the far left of the ribbon, click File. If it has the 'Office button' instead of 'File', click the Office button. If the Quick Access Toolbar is hidden, select Show the Quick Access Toolbar. Move the Quick Access Toolbar. The Quick Access Toolbar can be located in one of two places: Upper-left corner, on the title bar. (default location) Below the ribbon. You can move the location of the Quick Access Toolbar from one to the other. Click Customize Quick.

Kamal notes that half of the ribbon in Word is concealed. Every time he has to do something like change font, font size, underline, italicize, etc., Kamal has to click Home for the full ribbon to appear, do the task, and then the full ribbon gets concealed again. He wonders how to get the full ribbon to remain visible at all times.

Microsoft Word Menu Bar Missing Lines
This is a common occurrence in Word. The ribbon can either be fully displayed or it can be minimized when not in use. The condition that Kamal describes is for a ribbon that is minimized. You can switch the ribbon back to a normal, full display by using any of these techniques:
- Double-click any ribbon tab.
- Press Ctrl+F1.
- Right-click any ribbon tab and clear the check mark beside the Minimize the Ribbon option. (Word 2007 and Word 2010.)
- Right-click any ribbon tab and click on Collapse the Ribbon (Word 2013 or a later version.)
- Click the small downward-pointing arrow at the right end of the ribbon. (This method is only available with Word 2010. You will have to use one of the other methods listed above to display the full ribbon with any other version of Word.)

As you can tell, there are many ways that Word provides to accomplish the same task. For most people, it is the first method (double clicking) that causes the problem in the first place. It is easy to double-click a ribbon tab without even realizing it, and then your ribbon is hidden without understanding why.
